About Mercedes-AMG
Discover the Excellence and Innovation of Mercedes-AMG
Founded in 1967 by Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, Mercedes-AMG started as an independent company specializing in the development of racing vehicles.
The name "AMG" comes from the initials of the founders and Aufrecht's hometown, Großaspach. The first major success came in 1971, when an AMG Mercedes 300 SEL 6.9 won its class at the 24 Hours of Spa, finishing second overall.
In the 1980s, AMG began collaborating closely with Mercedes-Benz, leading to the creation of iconic models like the AMG 500SEC. This partnership became official in 1999 when Mercedes-Benz acquired a majority stake in AMG, establishing it as its official high-performance division.
Today, Mercedes-AMG offers a lineup of over 50 models, ranging from 367 hp to 630 hp, including sedans, coupés, SUVs, and roadsters. The brand represents exclusivity, exceptional performance, and innovation.
